More than 300 people gathered Saturday morning in Crystal River for a peaceful protest dubbed a “Call to Action,” part of a wave of demonstrations held across the United States as citizens voiced concerns over the nation’s political direction. The event, organized by the Citrus Coffee Coalition, drew residents and out-of-towners to the sidewalks of Crystal River’s Town Square. Scumbag Arrested
The owner of Twysted Vyne Wine & Beer Bistro in Inverness was arrested Tuesday following an altercation over an upside down American flag held in protest in downtown Inverness last week.
Keith Michael Shewbart, 66, of Crystal River was arrested Tuesday and charged with battery on a person 65 years or older, according to a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Documents state the offense was reclassified to a third-degree felony. Shewbart has since been released on $2,000 bond.
Womens Rally
A rally promoting a woman’s right to choose will take place from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday on the grounds of the old courthouse in downtown Inverness. It’s known as the Women’s March and not only will it be taking place in Inverness, but across the United States, according to Rita Fox; a Citrus County resident, Fox is an activist on a number of issues.
However, Fox, who makes it known she is a registered Democrat, said the rally is not a Democrat vs. Republican, conservative vs. liberal, nor male vs. female issue.
“It’s not a women’s issue. Seventy-three to 76 percent of people support abortion,” said Fox, who added that an estimated 150,000-plus signers of a petition to put the issue on the ballot are registered Republicans...
